Katelyn Deremiens

Congratulations to the Freshman team for winning the City Title! The girls we extremely patient, dedicated, and open to trying new things throughout the season- even if it meant losing a game. We actually lost three out of four regular season games to Massey, but our focus has always been the City Final. The one that counts. Our season has been devoted to Long Term Athlete/Team Development. These girls embodied this philosophy and came out on top (with an 8 man roster) when it counted! Thank you for a great season girls!

BUDGET and TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

TEAM FEES have been FINALIZED! The fees for the season are $175/player. For those who have already turned in their $75 commitment fee, that is to be subtracted from the total amount ($175 team fees-$75 commitment= $100 of fees remaining.). Some of you will be getting a refund!
Total fees are due by the end of the season (First week of March).
Commitment fees ($75) are still to be turned in (post dated cheques are fine) by January 19, 2017. If they are not turned in, the athlete will practice but not be able to play.

PLAYERS!

Our conditioning sucks! Each week you have to complete 100 burpees for time (how fast can you do 100 burpees).

Once a week, 100 burpees = better conditioning= better basketball players!

Coach will do the challenge as well. My previous personal best is 9:12 (9 minutes and 12 seconds).

Criteria:

  • Chest, stomach and thighs must touch the ground (no push up necessary)
  • Must extend fully at the top of the burpee, touch hands over head, and finish with a small jump

Still not sure? Check out the burpee tutorial below. Hold yourself to a high standard. Don't cheat reps and don't fudge your time. We are looking for personal improvements here. Let's see how you progress over the season!

PARENTS!!!

I have updated our schedule with practices, games, and tournaments. Tournament draws (that I have received so far) have been attached below in two different file formats. The JV league schedule is also attached- Freshman, yours isn't ready yet! I have a few other updates/reminders, as well.

BUDGET

I have completed the transparent budgets for each team and they are attached below. For away trips, there is a meal allotment for the coaches. Coaches will submit receipts (up to a $12-15 max per meal/coach,) for reimbursement. Anything remaining will go towards a wind up for the girls at the end of the season. The players provide their own meals for these trips- we usually make a trip to grocery story or a reasonable restaurant if necessary.

TEAM FEES-> PLEASE READ CAREFULLY <-

The fees per player are still TBD. Once I have the commitment fees ($75) in, I will be able to determine the cost per player (~$200, depending on the how many players).

Deadline for JV players will be Friday, January 13th. POSTDATED CHEQUES ARE FINE! I need something physical in my hands to submit.

However, the JVs have a game on MONDAY, JANUARY 9th. If the fees and permission slip are not in at this point, the athlete WILL NOT be permitted to play.

JV players will outstanding fees from prior extracurricular activities will also not be permitted to play until those fees have been settled.*

Deadline for FRESHMAN PLAYERS will be THURSDAY, JANUARY 19th- which should be the date of our first game.

TEAM FEES AND ROSTERS WILL BE FINALIZED ON THEIR RESPECTIVE DEADLINES FOR COMMITMENT FEES ($75) AND PERMISSION SLIPS. Once the commitment fee and permission form is in the athlete's name will be added to the roster below.

TRANSPORTATION TO AWAY TOURNAMENTS:

We may be able to reduce our fees. As of right now, my transportation budget includes a vehicle rental for the Friday of those tournaments. If a parent is able to provide a vehicle for me to drive and/or able to drive a carload of athletes, that will cut the transportation budget by about 50%. Parents driving a car of 4 or more players will be eligible for gas reimbursement (save receipts!). PLAYERS MUST DRIVE WITH AN ADULT TO/FROM TOURNAMENTS.

WORKING FEES OFF VIA SCOREKEEPING:

An athlete can pick up shifts scorekeeping for other games (THIS DOES NOT PERTAIN TO HOME TOURNAMENTS- we do not pay an entry fee to those tournaments, therefore, we are expected to scorekeep). This can be coordinated through Lynn Moore-Mulligan; she shares an office with Coach Hartman. The athlete will need to be actively seeking work; Ms. Moore-Mulligan will not track an athlete down just because they said they want to work. Check in periodically and look for work. The athletes could also see about shoveling driveways in their spare time :)

KIDSPORT:

For those interested in using KIDSPORT, I have forms available. Once our fees are finalized, I will input the amount. From there, you will need to be in contact with KIDSPORT (http://www.kidsportcanada.ca/manitoba/) regarding your eligibility, paperwork, and submitting your application. The application needs to be in before the end of the season (end of February).

*Outstanding fees from prior sports that have ended will not be eligible for KIDSPORT funding*
